Homeland Security announces beginning of the TPS re-extension period for Salvadoran nationals

The Department of Homeland Security announces that the Temporary Protected Status for near 250,000 beneficiaries from El Salvador will begin July 9, 2010. The first
announcement was made during a visit to El Salvador from the Assistant Secretary of State for Western Hemisphere Affairs, Arturo Valenzuela, in a meeting with government
officials.

The notice also sets forth procedures necessary for nationals of El Salvador, and the benefit period will cover from September 9, 2010 to March 9, 2012. The re-registration enters into effect July 9 and last until September 9, 2010.

The announcement caused good news in Southern California, considered the “national
capital” of Salvadorans in the United States. All the beneficiaries need to get acquainted with the paperwork, the fees, and the work permit and file on time. Salvadorans will have 90 days, once the announcement is printed in the Federal Register July 9, 2010.

It is very important that families prepare for this immigration relief that may be the last time is granted to this Central American nation, that enjoy this status since the year 2001.
